In a bold step to reinvigorate global grapefruit consumption, South Africa’s grapefruit growers, together with the Citrus Growers’ Association of Southern Africa (CGA), have launched the Summer Star Ruby campaign, with Germany chosen as the first market for rollout.
Over the past decade, South Africa has become a powerhouse as country has been officially recognised as the world’s largest producer of macadamias, and the 2024 recovery on returns for macadamias after a two-year slump is further fuelling expansion.
South Africa has firmly established itself as a frontrunner producer of Pink Lady® apples in the Southern Hemisphere. With an annual output of approximately 5 million cartons, the country is a major player from the Southern Hemisphere, competing with Chile, New Zealand, and Australia for Northern Hemisphere markets.
